Sunday School

Our Saviors Sunday school has a lot to offer!

We begin with our 3 year olds, 4 year olds and Kindergarten class. We have two teachers who implement simple, easy to understand lessons. They incorporate art projects and singing to make a fun and well rounded experience for this age group.

We operate a “rotational” Sunday School which means for 6 weeks we study one topic but rotate to different “stations” each week that

For students in 1st through 6th grade we operate a rotation-type Sunday school class where they study one topic for several weeks through a different teacher and different approach each week. Currently our rotations include: kitchen, movie, games, science and art. Each teacher reviews the topic and teaches it through the experience of their rotation location. You may be making an art project that goes along with the story or cooking something yummy in the kitchen, or eating popcorn while watching a movie that relates to the story, or performing a simple science project that can be tied in with the topic or playing a couple of games that make the story come alive.

Sunday mornings begin with fun, and sometimes crazy, songs to sing and praise the Lord before we break for rotation. Once a month we usually sing for the congregation and lots of children like to volunteer to usher or read scripture for the service as well.

7th and 8th grade students are in a classroom study with a very casual group discussion on the "topic of the day" that is picked by the teacher. These discussions apply to the everyday stresses, questions and excitement in the lives of twelve to fourteen year olds; and how faith can play a vital role in all of their decisions. 7th and 8th grade students also help with big projects we might have going on with the younger students. The younger students enjoy having the older youth to look up to..

Many of our high school kids that have completed Sunday school volunteer to be rotation teachers and the kids really love that!

We are also involved in service projects throughout the year to show our children how important it is to help others. Projects may include raising money for places or families in need, donating food items to the food pantry or just singing at the nursing home one Sunday to put a smile on the resident’s faces. All is done in the glory of God.

Attendance is rewarded with prizes from the prize boxes. These prizes are often donated by people in our congregation.  Small toys, gum, candy and books are examples of the different prizes a child can pick for good attendance.

Our Saviors Lutheran Church teaches the students in a very fun, loving way that helps them retain the bible stories they learn about.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a time in the Lutheran Church that the youth are given the opportunity to “confirm” their beliefs in God and Jesus Christ and become a full fledged member of their congregations. This rite of passage is a voluntary act. Many of the youth would say their parents strongly support and encourage this milestone in their lives.

Confirmation classes at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church begin in the 7th grade and continue through the 8th grade. During the early months of their 9th grade the students will receive final instructions before the Rite of Confirmation in the fall.

Typically confirmation classes are held on Wednesdays during the school year immediately after school. Confirmation students are paired with a mentor during the Lenten season. Mentoring expands the circle of trusted adults the youth can turn to. It sets aside time to  discuss specific areas of how to relate our faith to everyday life while experiencing the Lenten journey together. Confirmation students are also expected to be on a rotating acolyte schedule.

VBS - Vacation Bible School

Held during the summer months, typically one day each week for 5 weeks OR 5 days in a row.
